The Oilers tough-guy alum died on June 29 after a battle with cancer. He was 59.
Along with Semenko’s family, Wayne Gretzky, Paul Coffey, Kevin Lowe and more were present to honor and share words about their former teammate. A priest was also present at the ceremony.
Semenko played eight NHL seasons with the Oilers, scoring 49 goals and 136 points through 454 games. However, his point totals are not what defined his career. On the ice, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound enforcer stood up for and protected his teammates, while taking on any fighter. He also knew how to throw his weight around and use his frame to his advantage.
