The award is given out each year to the player that “best exemplifies the qualities of perseverance, sportsmanship and dedication to hockey.”
In past years, it has usually gone to a player that is a long-time Hall of Famer, or one that has gone through adversity. However, the Oilers chose to nominate Maroon, and now, it’ll be up to the Professional Hockey Writers’ Association to vote on.
Maroon has proven his dedication to the team and has become one of the most vital members of the Oilers.
