The Edmonton Oilers have a lopsided issue to deal with. They must address their defensive corps, upgrading them by size and skill. However, there’s a catch; the Oilers have plenty of left-handed defenders, and no one on the right side, so the acquisitions they must make should likely be right-handed defensemen with potential to skate top minutes.
This is a situation that surely has Peter Chairelli scratching his head: right-handed defenseman are the equivalent to something of an endangered species when it comes to the NHL right now; in free agency, there are 75 NHL defensemen said to be available, but a majority of them are left-handed.
