It looks like Kris Versteeg’s PTO with the Edmonton Oilers is coming to a sad end. The right-winger is close to signing with the Calgary Flames, as per reports.
The deal will likely be a one-year contract for around $1 million. Despite a strong camp with the Oilers, and a chance of making the team, Versteeg chose to take his talent elsewhere.
There is a reason behind this. Because of Drake Caggiula’s success, he will start at third-line centre, meaning Leon Draisaitl becomes the second-line right wing. With Jordan Eberle and Draisaitl filling out the top six, Versteeg moves down to the bottom-six of the lineup.
