As per the NHL Network’s E.J. Hradek, Russell will in fact remain with the Oilers and sign an extension soon. The 29-year-old blueliner’s deal is expected to be around $4 million AAV for four years, per Ryan Rishaug.
Russell was a late 2016 offseason signing and joined the team shortly before the season began. He proved to be a versatile option for the Oilers, playing the right and left hand side and being a key member of the top four. Though his analytics told a different story, Russell was effective for Edmonton, blocking a lot of shots and playing a smart game.
