The Edmonton Oilers have signed right-handed defenseman Matthew Benning, to a two-year entry-level contract, General Manager Peter Chiarelli announced Saturday.

Benning, a 22-year-old defender who suited up for the NCAA’s Northeastern Huskies, played in 41 games this past season, racking up 19 points (six goals, 13 assists), as well as 37 PIM. He was a even-0 when it came to plus-minus, and helped lead the Huskies to their first Hockey East Championship since 1988.
Over his entire NCAA career of 110 games, he scored 56 points (nine goals, 47 assists) and accumulated 101 PIM.
