Edmonton assigned winger Patrick Russell and goaltender Nick Ellis to the Bakersfield Condors. The team also placed winger Ty Rattie and defenceman Dillon Simpson on waivers.
Russell, who signed an entry-level deal with the Oilers in May 2016, played in four preseason games with Edmonton this season, recording a lone assist. Due to a lack of production, as well as not enough zest to beat out his competition, the 24-year-old proved ready for further development with the Condors.
While Ellis has emerged into one of the team’s more promising goaltending prospects, he still has ways to go before joining the NHL ranks.
