The Edmonton Oilers looked like an offensive firehouse in their season opener, beating Calgary 7-4. Edmonton got an all-around effort from many players, but it was Connor McDavid that shined the brightest.
In his first game as captain, McDavid proved that being captain is an honor, not a burden. Zack Kassian gave the Oilers a 3-1 lead at the end of the first, but in the second period, the Flames came back. After Calgary evened the score, the 19-year-old decided to take matters into his hands.
His first goal of the night came on a backhand that bounced off the boards.
