When the Edmonton Oilers acquired goalie Anders Nilsson back in early July, many Oilers fans thought he was only brought in for insurance purposes and was destined for AHL duty. But don’t tell him that.
“My mindset is to challenge for the No. 1 job,” said Nilsson.
Nilsson couldn’t have done anything more thus far to prove to the Oilers’ coaching staff that he deserves a spot on the team. Nilsson has been perfect in his three pre-season appearances, stopping all 53 shots he’s faced in 120 minutes of action.
Though most believe the Oilers will hand Cam Talbot the reins as the new starter, nothing is set and stone yet.
