At the end of the 2014-15 season, the biggest issue surrounding the Edmonton Oilers was in goal. Former General Manager Craig MacTavish had tried to fix it, trading for Ben Scrivens and signing Viktor Fasth. Both had terrible seasons, and MacTavish was replaced by General Manager Peter Chiarelli. He was left to find his own solution for goaltending, and found it rather quickly.
At the 2015 NHL Entry Draft , Chiarelli traded 3 draft picks (57, 79, and 184 overall) to the New York Rangers for Cam Talbot.
