YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University junior infielder Max Schuemann (Portage, Mich.-Portage Northern) was selected in the 20th round, 593rd overall, by the Oakland Athletics in the 2018 Major League Baseball First-Year Draft Wednesday afternoon, June 6. Schuemann becomes the 75th EMU player to be drafted all-time into the MLB.
Schuemann is the fourth Eastern player to be drafted into the Athletics organization, joining James Horton (1971), Bud Yanus (1978), and Ryan Ford (2004). The 20th round is also the highest an EMU player has been drafted since 2009 when Jimmy Gulliver went to the Detroit Tigers in the 20th round as well.
