Eastern Michigan expected to hire UTSA’s Neal Neathery as next Defensive Coordinator

Eastern Michigan is expected to hire University of Texas-San Antonio’s Neal Neathery as its next defensive coordinator.

It was announced Jan. 1, via a source at FootballScoop.com, that Neathery will leave his duties at UTSA for EMU, where he had been the defensive coordinator and linebacker coach from 2010-2015.

This comes following the firing of Brad McCaslin who was relived of his duties on Dec. 22.

Neathery and current EMU head coach Chris Creighton have a long history of working alongside each other. Neathery had previously been the defensive coordinator at Drake University from 2008-2009; the associate head coach at Division III Wabash College from 2001-2007, where he was named the Division III assistant coach of the year in 2007, as well as the defensive coordinator at Ottawa College in Kansas from 1997-2000, all under Creighton.
