East Carolina University Athletic Director Jon Gilbert announced on Saturday that Virginia Tech will not play the Pirate football team in three games that were supposed to be at Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium in the upcoming years.
Gilbert, who was hired in November, released a statement regarding the ECU and Virginia Tech series status. In the statement, Gilbert said the university was notified on Friday that Virginia Tech would not play ECU in Greenville during the 2019, 2023 and 2025 seasons, contrary to existing contracts.
During the 2018 season, ECU was scheduled to travel to Blacksburg, Virginia to take on the Hokies.
