The University of South Florida baseball team, ranked No. 24 in the country, defeated visiting East Carolina in walk-off fashion, 5-4 Saturday night, after the Pirates staged a dramatic comeback to force extra innings.
Trailing 4-0 headed into the sixth inning, ECU (24-23, 4-13 American Athletic Conference) scored four runs over the last four innings to push game two of the weekend series against USF (36-10, 11-6 AAC) into the tenth inning. Seniors Eric Tyler, Bryce Harman and Travis Watkins provided the rally’s firepower. Tyler smashed a two-run home run in the sixth to start the comeback, while Harman and Watkins both hit solo home runs, in the eighth and ninth inning respectively, to even the score at 4-4 and push the game to extra innings.
