The search for the next East Carolina football coach deepened on Wednesday, as the school’s director of athletics was away from campus searching for Ruffin McNeill’s replacement.
Jeff Compher remained on course to name a new ECU football leader either by the end of this week or early next. While the probe appeared to narrow substantially at midweek, it remained unclear who the most important hire of the Compher administration to date will be.
Multiple sources confirmed that the AD —who last Friday fired McNeill after six seasons — was out of town and at least one believed he was in Raleigh.
