East Carolina quarterback Kurt Benkert tore the ACL in his right knee at Tuesday night's practice and will miss the entire season.
ECU confirmed the injury in a statement this afternoon.
Benkert earlier today posted the following on Twitter: "You can sit there and ask "why me?" or you can embrace it and say what can I next?"
The sophomore was named last week as the team's new starting passer for the Pirates' season opener next Saturday against Towson.
"Everyone in college football is affected by injuries and we are no different," ECU head coach Ruffin McNeill said.
