Summers: Mids' athleticism underrated

ANNAPOLIS, Md.

How fast a man can run a 40-yard dash might be the most overrated number in football. Just ask the Navy Midshipmen.

Each week, the Mids face an unfair stereotype. They get plenty of credit for discipline, execution and toughness, but not much else.

Their wins typically are credited to the defensive nightmare of defending the triple option and, to an extent, the ever-inspiring atmosphere — mystique even — of game days in Annapolis.

But in Saturday’s mostly routine 45-21 beating of visiting East Carolina, the athleticism and on-field speed of Navy quarterback Keenan Reynolds played perhaps as big a role as anything.
