Strong offense gives Pirates 5-1 victory

Senior pitcher Kirk Morgan started the game off allowing a double, which came in for a single run, among the six batters he faced in the first inning. Morgan and the East Carolina University baseball team rallied quickly to take the lead against Duke and never looked back in a 5-1 victory at home Wednesday night.

“What really got me going, Travis in the second inning blocking that ball and throwing the guy out at first,” Morgan said. “And from there I just started competing and stopped thinking and just started getting it going.”

After giving up one run in the first inning, East Carolina (25-24, 4-14 American Athletic Conference) responded quickly in the bottom of the first inning against Duke University (24-24, 9-15 Atlantic Coast Conference).
