With ECU’s offensive struggles, the Pirates allowed 17 points in the first quarter, but then didn’t allow any more points until a field goal in the fourth quarter. Inside linebackers Jordan Williams and Terrell Richardson played a big role in this lockdown defense, as they led the team in tackles.
“I’m glad that we kept fighting and I’m glad that we have a good brotherhood,” said Richardson. “We stuck together no matter what, and we’re still together.”
After the first three drives for the Gamecocks all resulted in points because of superb field position, the ECU defense tightened up.
