The No. 6 ranked University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill snapped East Carolina University’s baseball team’s perfect record last night, tying the three-game traveling series at one a piece in a thrilling 5-4 win at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
“The level of competition that we just faced, and battling back with them, is hard to fathom,” sophomore designated hitter Spencer Brickhouse said. “You win some and you lose some and today we came up a little bit short. You’re not going to win every game especially against a team like North Carolina.”
The Pirates had an opportunity in the eighth inning to tie or take the lead with the bases loaded and one out, but pinch hitter Jake Washer grounded into an inning ending double play that kept the game at 5-4 in UNC’s favor.
