Pirates take game one against Tar Heels

The East Carolina University baseball team stole game one against the No. 6 ranked team in the nation, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, 2-1, behind solid pitching performances.

In what was the third largest crowd ever in Clark-LeClair Stadium, 5,382 fans came out to see a great matchup between the Pirates (5-0) and Tar Heels. Neither team disappointed with both pitchers dealing back-and-forth.

“Somebody told me that this was the third biggest crowd,” head coach Cliff Godwin said. “It was an awesome performance by our fans when they came out today. I know it was not the most exciting game for them because it was a pitcher’s duel but it still made a difference to the guys out there today.
