East Carolina University’s football team’s head coach Scottie Montgomery announced Tuesday evening that last season’s starting quarterback, senior Gardner Minshew, will not be returning to the school due to family matters.
“Our full support is for Gardner and his family during this time,” Montgomery said in a press release. “He's been an asset and leader in our program, but our first priority is to be there for him today, tomorrow and the days afterward.”
Montgomery believes the door remains open for Minshew’s return to ECU because of NCAA transfer rules, as he still had a year of eligibility remaining.
