The East Carolina University softball team split its two games with a win over Towson University and a loss against the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, on Sunday to close out the Pirate Clash Invitational at the ECU Softball Stadium.
ECU stopped a comeback attempt by the Tigers to earn a 4-3 win in the first game on Sunday. ECU freshman pitcher Whitney Sanford got the win and pitched all but one out of the game. She was taken out after giving up two runs, but after junior pitcher Ashley Cruise gave up a run in the seventh inning, Sanford came back in and closed the game.
