Seeing the Pirates send the game to extra innings had the 3,961 fans in Clark-LeClair stadium on their feet making noise in support of ECU (18-10), and they grew even louder as closer Joe Ingle struck out the first UConn (15-9) batter in the 10th.
But the cheers were replaced by an uneasy tension after Anthony Prato hit an infield single and then advanced to second on a wild pitch. Ingle forced the next Husky batter to ground out but Prato still advanced to third base on the play. Zac Susi emerged to be the hero for UConn, hitting a two-out single to bring home Prato for what proved to be the game winning run.
