Pirates picked for middle-of-the-pack finish in American Conference

East Carolina University’s baseball team was picked to finish fourth in the American Athletic Conference Thursday afternoon, after the nine head coaches of the conference teams voted in the preseason poll.

The University of Houston was tabbed as the best team, receiving five of the nine first-place votes. The Cougars defeated ECU in last year’s AAC tournament championship game and also hosted the NCAA Regional round in Houston. They return starting pitcher Trey Cumbie, the preseason Pitcher-of-the-Year in the AAC. The University of Connecticut, who received three first-place votes, and Central Florida both finished above ECU in the poll as well.
