The East Carolina University softball team(4-3) went 2-0 with wins over Towson University(4-2) and St. Joseph’s University(1-1) in its first day of the Pirate Invitational tournament hosted at the ECU Softball Stadium in Greenville, North Carolina.
Freshman infielder Ashley Inae hit into a walk-off fielder’s choice, scoring sophomore outfielder Olivia Narron in a close play at home plate, giving the Pirates a 4-3 win in extra innings against Towson in its first game on Friday.
ECU struck first in the game to score two runs in the first inning. Redshirt sophomore infielder Tate McClellan singled to score freshman outfielder Tyler King, and senior infielder Meredith Burroughs followed that up with a sacrifice fly to score senior infielder Karlie Smith.
