A volleyball match between Memphis and East Carolina in Minges Coliseum delayed ECU’s basketball season opener 30 minutes on Friday night.
The additional time prior to tip-off did not help the Pirates, but led by Caleb White’s game-high 21 points, they overcame a rocky start to secure a 61-53 victory over Grambling State.
“We’re lucky to win that game shooting 31 percent (from the field),” sixth-year ECU coach Jeff Lebo said after the Pirates secured a season-opening win for the 15th consecutive season. “But we found a way to gut it out. I thought we did some good things coming down the stretch.
