UCF (17-9, 6-6 AAC) entered the game fresh off an upset win over in-state rival South Florida, which was ranked No. 22 in the nation at the time. Junior guard Aliyah Gregory scored a career-high 34 points for the Knights and earned them their first ever win at USF and the first win in the rivalry in 37 years.
Gregory continued her impressive play against the Pirates (10-17, 1-13 AAC), leading all scorers with 27 points. Three other Knights reached double figures and teamed up to hand ECU its 11th straight loss.
“I am real disappointed in the fact that we have allowed our inability to score the basket to affect how we defend it,” ECU head coach Heather Macy said.
