The No. 8 ranked East Carolina University baseball team defeated No. 12 ranked University of North Carolina on Wednesday by a score of 9-5.
ECU (37-11, 16-2 AAC) came in guns blazing against UNC (35-13, 15-9 SEC), having an unbelievable six run first inning. Sophomore pitcher and first baseman Alec Burleson got the offense started with a huge hit that drove in two Pirates. This put ECU up 2-0 against UNC, and the Pirates weren’t done there.
Redshirt junior catcher Jake Washer stepped up to the plate and took a full count from the opposing pitcher. With the pitch count three balls and two strikes, he blasted a massive home run behind left field.
