Faced with signing 20 or more new football players in a span of less than five weeks, Scottie Montgomery scored his first victory on Wednesday by executing a game plan.
East Carolina’s first-year football coach spent those weeks trying to mesh together a group of previous commits to former coach Ruffin McNeill with a group of athletes solely identified by the new staff. Together, the Pirates produced a 22-man class that included 20 new signatures on Wednesday’s National Signing Day.
The group that includes 11 in-state players is remarkable in that despite the tight deadline, Montgomery managed to bring in players at every position group.
