East Carolina University defeated Brigham Young University on Homecoming night yesterday, ending its losing streak, despite almost fumbling three times in the first half, one coming before it reached its own 30-yard line.

With nearly two first quarter turnovers starting off week eight, ECU was able to overcome its early struggles in the first half to win 33-17, the Pirates’ first home win inside Dowdy-Ficklen stadium this season.

BYU (2-6; 0-0 Football Bowl Subdivision Independent), nearly forced three fumbles in the first quarter setting the tone early for the Cougars defense. Wide receivers Quay Johnson and Trevon Brown were the first two Pirates with fumbles called on the field.
