Seven shutout innings from starter Jake Agnos and a pair of solo home runs powered East Carolina University to a 4-0 victory over the University of Central Florida Saturday, advancing the Pirates to the American Athletic Conference Baseball Championship Game.
ECU (32-27, 10-17 AAC), the No. 8 seed in the tournament, took down No.1 UCF (40-20, 15-9 AAC) in a battle of pitching. The Pirates’ Agnos, a freshman, outdueled UCF’s starting pitcher, Jason Bahr. Agnos surrendered only two hits in his seven innings of shutout pitching, while striking out six Knights. In contrast, Bahr lasted only four innings, giving up two runs on three hits, but also issuing five strikeouts.
