The East Carolina University women’s tennis team played its first match of the season against the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill yesterday, losing 7-0 to the No. 5 Tar Heels.
The match was a good challenge for the Pirates, who faced a stacked UNC roster which boasts four singles players with a top-50 national ranking.
The Pirates travelled to UNC for their first match of the season, after their match against North Carolina Central University was cancelled last week due to bad weather. The match against NCCU was rescheduled for Feb. 1.
Head coach Tom Morris said the match against UNC wasn’t the score the Pirates had hoped for.
