There have been flashes of dominance from the defensive unit, slugging it out with a now eighth-ranked Florida team and holding SMU scoreless in the game’s final 40 minutes.
There have also been signs of a depleted squad, after allowing 415 rushing yards in the loss to Navy and allowing an obviously injured Tanner Mangum march down the field for the game-winning score last week.
“The biggest thing I’m disappointed in is we are 3-3,” ECU defensive coordinator Rick Smith said. “The schedule has been extremely tiresome. You think about going to Florida, having a chance to win that in the fourth quarter.
