History was made for the No. 20 ranked East Carolina University baseball team last weekend when sophomore pitcher Jake Kuchmaner threw ECU’s first-ever perfect game in a 3-0 victory against the University of Maryland on Sunday. This added to the 3-0 sweep as the Pirates are now 15-6 on the season while Maryland falls to 10-8 overall.
The historic day for ECU started off slowly for both teams. ECU broke a scoreless tie in the sixth inning thanks to a two-run RBI double by freshman infielder Thomas Francisco. The Pirates added to their lead in the ninth when sophomore catcher Seth Caddell hit a solo home run to left field.
