Jada Payne had maybe the most difficult assignment in women’s college basketball on Saturday night.
She often was matched up in the post on defense against Connecticut star Breanna Stewart, which aided in a taxing night for Payne. She ended the game hitting just 3-of-15 shots and scoring seven points.
Payne’s scoring should quickly return to a normal output, and the senior forward who is third in the American Athletic Conference in scoring at 18.9 points per game likely will pass LaCoya Terry and move into third on ECU’s all-time scoring list during Wednesday’s game at Cincinnati.
