Outside potential

Justin Hardy is gone and the East Carolina offense took a big hit earlier this week with the loss of starting quarterback Kurt Benkert, but the annual constant that remains is the plethora of talent at receiver.

Benkert’s torn ACL leaves questions under center as Saturday’s season opener versus Towson looms, but whoever is at QB should have explosive options at his disposal.

Multiple coaches have said Isaiah Jones appears ready to take over as the go-to target, which was occupied by NCAA all-time receptions leader Hardy the past few seasons. Like Hardy, Jones is versatile and can play multiple positions in the Pirates’ up-tempo spread attack.
