East Carolina’s women’s basketball team had two potential game-winning jump shots against Memphis on Saturday, but both bounced off the rim instead of falling through to satisfy the struggling Pirates and the spirited crowd on hand for ECU’s annual Play4Kay game promoting cancer awareness and honoring Kay Yow.
The result was the Pirates having to endure another close loss in Minges Coliseum after Memphis made clutch plays to come away with a 79-78 win in overtime, making ECU 0-3 in overtime games and 1-7 in contests decided by three points or less.
The Tigers rebounded a missed free throw with 5.
