As the lead slipped away from East Carolina’s women’s basketball team during the waning minutes of the first half in Minges Coliseum on Tuesday night, the likelihood of the Pirates’ frustrating losing streak increased.
Tulane withstood the Pirates’ early surge and rebounded to lead for the entire second half, pulling away for a 66-51 victory that also served as ECU’s eighth straight defeat. The loss for the Pirates (6-9), who had eight active players available because of injures and only played seven, dropped them to 0-3 in the American Athletic Conference.
ECU, which was without third-leading scorer Marina Laramie, led by as many as seven during the opening half, but Tulane (11-4, 2-1) gained control with a 19-12 advantage in the third quarter and stretched its lead to double digits early in the fourth.
