East Carolina could not stop SMU’s quest for an undefeated basketball season, as the No. 10 Mustangs moved past the halfway mark of their 30-0 goal.
Five SMU players reached double-figure scoring, the Mustangs outrebounded ECU 42-22 and Hall of Fame coach Larry Brown led his team to a wire-to-wire 79-55 victory over the Pirates in Minges Coliseum on Wednesday night. The win moved the Mustangs to 16-0 and 5-0 in American Athletic Conference play, and it left East Carolina coach Jeff Lebo impressed.
“They’re as good a team as I’ve coached against in a long time,” Lebo said after his club lost its fourth consecutive game to fall to 8-9 overall and 0-4 in league.
