Seemingly on the way to another conference loss, the East Carolina baseball team’s offense exploded for nine runs in the sixth inning defeating visiting Memphis 11-4, Friday night.
Trailing 3-1 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning and with having no batter reached base since the second, ECU (26-24, 5-14 American Athletic Conference) seemed destined for its 25th loss of the season. But senior third baseman Eric Tyler was having none of it. His three-run home run sparked a rally that saw all but three of the Pirates in the batting lineup bat twice, while Memphis (26-24, 6-13 AAC) went through three pitchers in the sixth inning alone.
