Montgomery plans for AAC consistency

Scottie Montgomery’s coaching experience is limited to the NFL — with the Pittsburgh Steelers — and the Atlantic Coast Conference — in two stints at Duke — but East Carolina’s new football coach came to Monday’s introductory news conference already equipped with some thoughts on the American Athletic Conference.

When asked about what is needed for the Pirates to be successful in the AAC, Montgomery offered a preliminary plan.

“If you look at the league over the last three or four years, there’s been multiple champions, so you have to find a way to be consistent,” Montgomery, who was Duke’s offensive coordinator this season, said after the main portion of his news conference.
