After exploding for 11 runs in Friday’s win over Memphis, the East Carolina baseball team wasn’t able to recreate the same run output in Saturday’s 7-3 loss to the Tigers.
ECU (26-25, 5-15 American Athletic Conference) showed great intensity on defense in the opening innings leading up to Memphis’ (27-24, 7-13 AAC) first score, before things fell apart. Short stop Turner Brown tried to make plays on defense but the Pirates’ pitching could not hold off the scoring attack.
After ECU starting pitcher Trey Benton held them to one hit over the first two innings, the Tigers took control of the game, scoring five runs in the third.
