Memphis exploits Pirates yet Montgomery is still hopeful

The East Carolina University football team and head coach Scottie Montgomery repeated the same 3-9 season this year as their 2016 campaign, with the crushing 70-13 defeat against the University of Memphis Saturday in Tennessee.

Not much was different this season than last year, but the biggest takeaway may be the Pirates improving their American Athletic Conference record to 2-6 this year compared to their 1-7 2016 record. Montgomery, in his second season with the Pirates, has been given the task to try and turn around the football program once again after a devastating loss to Memphis.

"This probably was the best team that we've played," Montgomery said, according to ECU Athletics.
