Eight days after Ruffin McNeill was fired as East Carolina’s head football coach, he linked up with a longtime friend for a new gig.
New Virginia head coach Bronco Mendenhall announced Saturday the hiring of eight assistant coaches, including McNeill as the Cavaliers’ assistant head coach and inside linebackers coach. Most of the rest of the Virginia staff is coming from BYU with Mendenhall.
McNeill was fired by the Pirates last Friday after six seasons and a 42-34 record. Prior to taking over at his alma mater in ECU, McNeill was a veteran defensive assistant at Texas Tech.
