East Carolina University women’s basketball head coach Heather Macy announced her resignation on Wednesday, effective immediately.
The Athletics’ Department Office of Compliance led an internal review of the program, which led to Macy’s resignation. Assistant coach Chad Killinger will take over as interim head coach while Macy will be reassigned until the end of her contract on Dec. 17.
“I regret that my misunderstanding about practice rules has led to this end, but I have chosen to resign in order to save the University and the team from any unnecessary distractions," Macy said in the release.
The University has not said what rules were broken or the exact reason for Macy’s resignation.
