Davis Kirkpatrick is hoping to pitch against Longwood next weekend.
If it happens, it will probably be in relief and not be a long outing, but it would be an accomplishment for the former D.H. Conley High School star pitcher and quarterback.
Kirkpatrick is returning from an injury to his pitching arm suffered in 2014 that required Tommy John surgery and sidetracked the right-hander’s progression after a promising freshman season in which he made five starts. Instead of being a candidate to earn weekend starts last year, Kirkpatrick often tracked pitches with a clipboard and multi-colored pen, sometimes sitting in the stands and sometimes observing from the dugout.
