ECU finished ninth, a top-10 placing that was hard to come by for the Irates — the team’s name — last year, showing the improvement they have been desperately working towards.
Sophomore Taylor Crotts led the Irates in points on the first day of the opening tournament with a total of eight, scoring roughly 20 percent of the tournament points. His remaining 25 teammates accounted for the rest of the scoring.
“It felt good,” Crotts said. “It was nice to have the layout [defense] we had, it’s what allowed us to get the offensive points. We have been doing a lot of running with a lot of discipline in practice.
