Connecticut brought its shooting touch to the gym on Super Bowl Sunday and posted nearly identical scores against East Carolina in the first and second halves of a comfortable 85-67 victory in Storrs, Conn.
The Huskies (17-6, 7-3 American Athletic Conference) shot a blistering 65 percent in the opening 20 minutes (17-for-26), but held just a nine-point lead, 42-33, at the haltime intermission.
That was thanks in large part to East Carolina’s Prince Williams, who connected on 4-of-6 3-pointers and scored a game-high 21 points in the game. Williams helped ECU shoot 42 percent from beyond the arc in the first half and kept the Pirates (10-13, 2-8) in the hunt until the Huskies ran away with a 9-0 run in the second half.
