East Carolina took donations from every unit on its football team, even the kicking game, on Saturday afternoon in a 30-17 beating of Tulsa on homecoming in Dowdy-Ficklen Stadium.
The Pirates proved to be much more than their two quarterbacks, though both of them played a hand in the wire-to-wire win for ECU (4-3, 2-1 American Athletic Conference).
The East Carolina defense bruised the Golden Hurricane (3-4, 0-2) and quarterback Dane Evans after a threatening opening drive from the visitors was halted by a goal-line interception and touchdown return by senior cornerback Josh Hawkins. After that, there was little blow in the Hurricane save for a fourth quarter rally that nullified a Pirate shutout.
